“…so happy to be visited by my doggie who asked no questions and was willing to give love (and receive it) unconditionally.”
Name: Sue & Megan Aldridge with Chaz & Ginger
Type of dog: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Location: New South Wales
Visits: Aged care; Hospital, Children’s hospital
Volunteering: 2 years
Why: I do this as I really feel the people visited by my dogs find it enjoyable and relaxing.
Enjoys most: The reaction of the children & old people to my dogs. They bring affection and laughter into other people’s lives.
Dog enjoys: Chaz & Ginger love all the attention.
Reaction: They really look forward to our visits and I sometimes feel that it is therapy for the staff too.
Experiences: Visiting a teenager in hospital who had let herself down the day before by consuming vast amounts of alcohol before school. After a harrowing day & obviously much questioning the site of a little dog as a visitor the following day was delightful to her eyes. She was so happy to be visited by my doggie who asked no questions and was willing to give love (and receive it) unconditionally.
